Banksy Class - Year 3 / Year 4 - Miss Ramplin

Banksy - British street artist, political activist, and filmmaker whose real identity remains unknown.

Known for his distinctive stenciled style, Banksy uses public spaces as his canvas, often delivering powerful social and political statements through his work. While controversial, his work has transformed the perception of graffiti from vandalism into powerful social commentary and valuable fine art. His art addresses topics such as poverty, inequality and environmental issues, often using irony and humour to provoke thought and challenge the status quo. Notable pieces such as Girl With a Balloon and There Is Always Hope have become iconic images in contemporary art.

In 2010, Banksy directed the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop, which was nominated for an Academy Award. One of his most famous stunts occurred in 2018 when a piece of his artwork shredded itself immediately after being sold at auction, challenging the commercialisation of art.

Despite his anonymity, Banksy has achieved global fame and is widely considered one of the most influential and provocative artists of the 21st century. His work continues to inspire debate, raise awareness, and blur the lines between art, activism, and rebellion. Despite the mystery around his identity, Banksy’s message is loud and clear: challenge, question and speak truth through creativity. He embodies bold, boundary-pushing creativity. Banksy shows that art doesn't have to follow traditional rules or happen in conventional places.

We hope that by naming our class after him we  can encourage our children to think outside the box, be courageous and use their voice to make a difference.
